north Korea launched a surprise attack at 0400, 25 June 1950, and captured Seoul within 3 days. On 28 June, the UN adopted a resolution to assist the Republic of Korea against north Korea's illegal armed attack.
2. UN Intervention and delaying tactics (29 June-14 September 1950)
ROK and UN forces were determined to "stand or die," assisted by many student volunteers and overseas Koreans, in defense of the Pusan Perimeter.

3. The Battle of Inchon and liberation of Seoul
General MacArthur, successfully executed a massive amphibious assault operation at the port of Inchon. Units defending the Pusan Perimeter also pushed northward, and Seoul was liberated on 28 September.

4. Advance across the 38th Parallel (1-24 October 1950)
ROK and UN forces crossed the 38th Parallel on 1 October 1950, liberating Pyongyang by 19 October, and reached the Chinese border on 26 October. By the end of October, reunification seemed to be a done deal.
